About
Chris Linn-Hatcher and her Art
Chris
Linn-Hatcher's artistry with handcarved birds is known
nationwide. Since 1981, Lakeside Decoys of
Helena, Montana has provided some of the finest
decoys and bird miniatures to major markets from
coast to coast. They are reknowned for their
beauty, color, and stunning detail.
Chris
is self-taught. Her art, born from her love of
nature and wide open spaces, reflects her close
observation of birds in their natural setting.
She was raised in the Midwest but has lived in
Montana for more than 20 years. She began
sculpting clay miniature birds and ornaments,
which led her to making exquisite wooden decoys.
Each bird is carefully carved by hand but her
true passion is painting, and it shows in her
work. The birds are painted in at least three or
four layers allowing for beautiful feather
detail. Her Swan is painted in seven layers and
takes a month to complete.
She
has several lines of carvings,
Decoys, Lil' Fat Birds, Little Fat Ducks, and Fat Bird
Birdhouses. Each bird is labeled
with its species, signed by Chris, and carries
the Lakeside Decoys label. She has also returned to
her childhood passion, playing in the clay, making
stoneware birds, windchimes and exquisite birdbaths
and feeders.
Her husband, Jim adds his
Stained Glass, and Fused Glass talents
with his delightful suncatcher birds.
